New Field Under Construction!
Submitted By pwiesner on Sunday, December 11, 2016
The BMBA is proud to say that a new field is under construction and anticipated to be in use of the 2017 season!

As most within our organization know, our registration numbers are growing exponentially every season.  The parks which we have been playing at have not been adequate in size to handle the influx of older aged players, however most importantly to give them a playing surface that accommodates the OBA mandate.

For those newer to the Binbrook Minor Baseball Association, we started off playing ALL of our games at Edwards Memorial Park (aka Woodburn Park) over 10 years ago.  This park has 3 t-ball sized fields with a very short 163 foot fence line.  It serves the purpose of accommodating t-ball greatly, however as our league grew so had too our fields.

In 2015 we were successfully able to regain the permits for the Binbrook Fairgrounds, the same season in which the BMBA fielded 2 successful rep teams (Mosquito and Peewee levels).  This added two more fields to our fold, as our numbers in 2015 continued to explode.  These diamonds, albeit very resourceful, also failed to meet the OBA standards for Peewee and Bantam aged players with a fence line of only 182 feet.

In 2016, while working very successfully with the city of Hamilton, and Councillor Brenda Johnson, we were able to gain partial permits for the Glanbrook Sports Complex (the large, full sized diamond behind the Glanbrook Arena).  These 3 field times helped accommodate the playing area for the first ever season of Bantam aged House Leaguers within our league, as well as a more than adequate size diamond for the Peewee rep team.  This field in comparison to the others is real MLB dimensions with 300+ foot homerun fences.

With saying that, a need still existed to have both more playing space at this Complex diamond (as we only has 3 permit/game times), as well as to have a mid-sized 200-250 foot playing surface to accommodate peewee aged players both adequately and safely.

As a history, in the mid to late 1990's a midsize baseball field was located directly behind the Glanbrook Arena, however was repurposed for soccer.  As most can see who visit the Glanbrook Arena on a regular basis, the city has done a fantastic job for the residents of Binbrook and those youth in minor soccer to accommodate them with a fantastic soccer complex, with many playing surfaces within that city property.

After much consultation the city has decided to add a second diamond to the Glanbrook Sports Complex, exactly where one existed 20+ years ago.  This diamond is slated to be in use for the 2017 and we should now be able to accommodate all of the BMBA playing needs.

The 2017 BMBA executive is working diligently to try and determine what aged players will play at what diamonds, however rest assured, baseball will be thriving again in Binbrook!

I look forward to seeing you all out during the 2017 baseball season and don't forget to get registered for winter ball.  It starts in 3 short weeks and we only have approximately 10 spots left to fill!
