For the love of the game...

Paul Holmes' love for the game of baseball will live another year in Binbrook!

Paul James Holmes #6 (1985-2015)

Paul was a regular kid who loved the game of baseball.  He loved it so much he dedicated most of his life to playing and coaching baseball, right until the year of his death.  Unfortunately God took Paul early to join the likes of Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Kirby Puckett for his own game in the heavens above.

Pauls parents, Annie and Danny, watched Paul progress though the many years of baseball from the age of 5, in their home town of Ancaster.  Paul lived for baseball and played on many house league and rep teams as his love for the sport grew stronger.  As Paul grew older his passion turned from playing to coaching and dedicated a great deal of time giving back to the community in which taught him this great game.

Paul's father Danny recalls the many long nights of throwing the ball endlessly with his baseball hungry son, who pushed his father so hard that many nights after playing left Danny having to ice his arm... but that's what the love of the game does to us all.

Everyone can recall memories, whether it yesterday or years past, which baseball builds fond memories.  Unfortunately life is too short and not always fair... however sometimes we have to take the pitch thrown to us.  What we can never do is forget the good times and remember how baseball can not only bring families together, but bring communities together as well.

In 2016, Binbrook parent and coach Scott McPhail has allowed Paul's spirit and love for the game to continue on, yet again, in the form of a team sponsorship.  Scott has (very kindly) sponsored a team in honour of Paul Holmes, as well as a second team for his business (McPhail Auto).

The Rookie Ball "Orange Bisons" will bear the honour of having Paul's name on the back of their jerseys as well as wearing the #6 on their sleeve in honour of Paul's baseball number.  Plans to have Paul's parents out at the first game of the season to throw out the first pitch is in the works.

As Paul would always say... "Baseball Rules!"  That too will be on the jersey!

See you at the park!
